A Little Personal History:
I really got into grits while living in Texas. For breakfast, they’re a real treat. Here’s how I make my grits.

Ingredients:
- 5 cups water
- 1 cup hominy grits
- 1 Tbs butter
- 1 Tbs brown sugar
Procedure:
- Bring water to a rapid boil in a saucepan.
- Gradually pour in the hominy grits and stir with wooden spoon.
- Reduce heat to low.
- Add the butter and brown sugar and stir.
- Cook for 20 minutes, or until the water is absorbed, stir occasionally.
- Serve hot.
Advanced Preparation:
Tips, Notes, and Variations:
- If you don’t like sweeter grits, leave out sugar. If you do like them sweeter, try different natural sweeteners (i.e. honey, maple syrup, fruit jelly, etc).
- Grits can also be flavored with cheese, sunny side up egg, small bits of ham or sausage or just topped with a pat of butter and salt to taste.
